The radiant weather of Australia could hardly be called ‘cool’ under any circumstance. Reaching 25 degrees Celsius on a mild day, it’s the perfect place to don shorts and a t-shirt, throw a shrimp on the barby and get the tan of a lifetime.
But one part of Australia that most certainly is cool is its selection of airports.
These flight hubs are packed to the gunnels with an array of services and features that feel cooler than the Fonz smacking a jukebox and murmuring, “Ayyyyyyy”.
So this list is for the plane-spotter that’s in us all. Whether you’re a native Australian or a holidaymaker looking to land in style, here are just a few of Australia’s coolest airports.
Sydney Airport
Sydney Airport is located eight kilometres south of Sydney’s city centre, and as such is the most populous airport in Australia. To understand the sheer scale of the airport, bear in mind that its international terminal flies approximately 14.9 million passengers a year.

But what’s truly impressive about Sydney Airport is the sheer breadth of services on offer before you hop on your flight.
If you’re driving to the airport, you’ll be treated to a huge array of Sydney Airport’s parking facilities (though be sure to book ahead to have your car picked up at the terminal).
From there you’ll be treated to a duty-free enthusiast’s wet dream, with services offering more than 28,000 products across local and international brands.
If you’re shopaholic, this is the location for you.
Our airport highlight: the Bar Roma can give you great drinks and an authentic Italian dining experience.
Melbourne Airport
Melbourne plays host to the second busiest airport in Australia. Opened in 1970 to replace nearby Essendon Airport, this popular flight hub has cemented its place in the metropolitan area with four terminals serving international and domestic flights.

This is an airport ideal for parents, with a varied and colourful children’s play area in Terminal 2 and baby change facilities in each terminal.
But what most impresses are the special VIP departure lounges dotted throughout each terminal. For a small extra fee you’ll be able to enter these lounges and enjoy the lap of luxury before you fly.
Our airport highlight: the Australian Produce Store is the ideal place for tourists who fancy a cuddly toy kangaroo for their journey.
Brisbane Airport
With the tagline ‘connecting Queensland 24/7’, Brisbane Airport is the third busiest airport in Australia and opened in 1988.

And it’s a facility that’s trying its best to relax you. Head over to the Plaza Premium Wellness Spa and you can enjoy one-hour full-body massages. Can you think of a better way to chill out?
Our airport highlight: Need to freshen up? Then the showers on Terminals 2 and 3 are a must.
